A delicious citrus dessert or sweet treat, made using our spiced orange slices.

1 jar of spiced orange slices

170g butter

170g caster sugar

3 eggs

170g self-raising flour

1 tbsp milk

1 tbsp of orange slice syrup (plus extra to finish)

1. Preheat the oven to 170 degrees C/gas mark 3/150 degrees fan. Using a cake tin with a removal base, grease and line with greaseproof paper and start to place the orange slices in the bottom of the tin. Once the bottom is covered in one layer of slices leave to one side whilst you make the cake batter.

2. Beat together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add one egg at a time, beating in between until the mixture fully incorporated. Gradually add the flour to the mix and combine until smooth. Add the milk and the orange syrup from the jar of orange slices and beat again until combined, then spread the cake batter evenly over the orange slices.

3. Place in the oven to bake for 30-35 minutes until the cake has turned golden brown and a skewer comes out cleanly. Remove from the oven and leave to cool. To finish, heat some of the remaining orange syrup in a pan and cover over the top of the cake. Serve with creme fraiche or custard.
